The Best Way To Control Spam Is To Know What It Looks Like: Working Online: Accessible Web Host’s Internet 101.

I had a dream on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 about checking out the keyboard shortcuts in WordPress for managing comments. The first thought that came to mind when I woke from the dream was, “Does this mean I might actually get a real comment on this site from someone within the next few days who’s not using a spam bot?”

I don’t really know why these clowns even bother. The stuff they try to post is so obviously junk that you would think that no one would even give it a second glance.

A lot of people use their name as a part of their email address. So, the first tip off that the post is bot generated is that the name filled in the name box doesn’t even match the name in the email address presented to the site. The second tipoff is that half the time the words in the posts look like a kindergartener’s first attempt at writing meaningful sentences in the English language.

Personally; I have a hard time believing that so many folks around the world would be so stupid as to fall for this kind of thing. But, then again, all I need to do is look at a HostGator forum to be reminded of the fact that most people who have websites don’t have a clue as to what they are doing.

Worse yet; some people who are building sites for other people don’t have a clue as to what they are doing; getting paid large sums of money for their efforts in stupidity to boot. So, “Yeah,” I can certainly see why spamming is so popular.

However, on this site; it’s those embedded links, mismatched names and piss poor grammar that will hang spammers out to dry every time. Not all of us Webmasters are clueless.
